Operation Smile provides free surgeries for children to repair cleft lip, cleft palate and other facial deformities that hinder a child's ability to eat, speak and even smile. In some areas, these children are even shunned by their communities and tormented in school. The reconstructive surgery Operation Smile provides only costs about $240 per child and takes less than an hour. “We are constantly looking for ways to contribute and give back. After hearing about the ability to be a part of funding a mission, we were very excited about the opportunity to do our part,” explains Rich Dinella, President of San Diego Marketing Group. The Bowl-A-Thon will be played in teams over a 2 hour period of time. The team with the most pins knocked at the end of the 2 hour tournament will be rewarded $100. San Diego Marketing Group is a sales and marketing firm in Mission Valley. The company is hired by large corporations to provide face to face representation to their business account holders to better acquire and retain their clients. The company has worked with several industries such as telecommunications, office supplies, energy and shipping services.

San Diego Marketing Group recently created a business partnership with the owners of Chuze Fitness to allow the company to sponsor a gym membership for members of the company. The gym membership offers the employees access to the gym and its amenities. “As a company, we want to promote a healthy balance of lifestyle and work,” says Sara Stafford, managing partner. “Offering our employees gym memberships on behalf of the company is just another way to reward them for their continuous outstanding work. The Smile Gala, held at the Beverly Hilton, will honor John Stamos, Harrison Ford and Susan Casden for their generosity towards the organization. The event will also feature entertainment by the cast of the popular television show “Glee.” The purpose of the gala is to raise awareness and funds for the Operation Smile organization.

San Diego Marketing Group partnered up with the San Diego Beach Improvement Group (BIG) to support the King and Queen Beach Volleyball Celebration, a two-on-two beach volleyball event.

San Diego BIG is a non-profit organization working towards improving sports equipment in San Diego County. Proceeds from events such as the King and Queen Celebration go towards sporting equipment at South Mission Beach, as well as other beach projects. The organization took over the maintenance for San Diego beach sporting equipment in 2002 and officially became a non-profit in 2007.

One of our managers, Sara Stafford, even participated in the event as a contestant.

“Since we started the company, we knew we wanted to make sure we were making an impact in the community. I am proud of the team we have here at the company because they share the same goals and are always excited to get involved.” said Sara Stafford, Managing Partner.

San Diego Marketing Group is participating in the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life on Aug. 21.

The fundraiser, which will take place at downtown San Diego, begins on Saturday, Aug. 21 at 9 a.m. and ends at 9 a.m. the next morning. Since Relay for Life is a 24-hour fundraiser representing that cancer never sleeps, each team is required to have at least one participant on the designated track at all times.

“I love being able to take the energy and teamwork we have here at the office and give back to such great causes. We take a lot of pride in being able to represent a company that gives back to the community and has a purpose outside of our own growth. As a team, San Diego Marketing Group hopes to raise at least $1,000 for the American Cancer Association. The organization is the world’s largest movement towards finding a cure for cancer.

San Diego Marketing Group is taking a step towards providing smiles across the globe by contributing to Operation Smile, a worldwide organization focused on helping children with facial deformities. Operation Smile provides free surgeries for children to repair cleft lip, cleft palate and other facial deformities that hinder a child's ability to eat, speak and even smile. In some areas, these children are even shunned by their communities and tormented in school. The reconstructive surgery Operation Smile provides only costs about $240 per child and takes less than an hour.

“We are constantly looking for ways to contribute and give back. After hearing about the ability to be a part of funding a mission, we were very excited about the opportunity to do our part,” explains Rich Dinella, President of San Diego Marketing Group.

With San Diego BIG, SDMG promotes local beach maintenance.

San Diego Marketing Group partnered up with the San Diego Beach Improvement Group (BIG) http://www.sandiegobig.org to support the King and Queen Beach Volleyball Celebration, a two-on-two beach volleyball event.

San Diego BIG is a non-profit organization working towards improving sports equipment in San Diego County. Proceeds from events such as the King and Queen Celebration go towards sporting equipment at South Mission Beach, as well as other beach projects. The organization took over the maintenance for San Diego beach sporting equipment in 2002 and officially became a non-profit in 2007.

One of our managers, Sara Stafford, even participated in the event as a contestant.

So often we hear people complain they are overworked and underpaid, and how they have no idea how to fix their situation. I think we can all relate that we have been there at one point or another. Through the years, I have found a few key things that can help someone to have a successful career.

1)Make sure you are actively learning at your job on a daily basis:
The key to learning is being an active part of the process. Just like school, often people show up daily and expect their presence to develop them. True success means not only showing up but also being an active participant in aggressively seeking advice from others, reading books and following through immediately.

2)Seek to add value to the company you work for:
If you want to be successful, employers and clients need to see value in your work. If you want more money and more opportunity, it only makes sense that you need to be doing a job that adds more revenue or eliminates additional costs. Find ways where you can add revenue to a company or decrease expenses so that you are an asset to the company you work with rather than a liability.

3)Seek to add value to the people you work with:
Creating a great team around you is crucial in having a successful career. Almost all wildly successful people have developed a great team of people who work alongside them because of the value they see in each other. However, if my goal were to improve my basketball game, I could only get better by playing daily with someone so successful. It's not only the physical strength that's developed; it's also the lessons to be learned by simply watching the habits of someone with such dedication and drive. The same holds true in business. The best way to do this is to study successful people and how they talk, walk, think and act.

5)Make as many mistakes as possible and smile! along the way:
All through school it was ingrained in me that mistakes were bad and I carried this mentality with me when I began working. A very intelligent mentor helped me change my view on mistakes when he made me look at the view scientists take with their studies. Each unsuccessful attempt to come to the right conclusion for a scientist is not labeled a failure, it's called an experiment. The more scientists experiment, the more miraculous things are created. I realized if I was afraid to experiment, I wouldn't ever come to any conclusions. So experiment I did... and still do.

So much of what I have learned has come from reading books from the expert like John Maxwell, Steven Covey, Dale Carnegie, David Schwartz and many more. I thank them for all the lessons they taught me and I thank the many mentors that have been patient with me through all my experiments while learning these lessons.

For any running enthusiast, May 6th 1954 is a remarkable day. For anyone struggling to reach their own potential in life, even those with no knowledge of the running world, this date has deeper significance.

Prior to May 6th, 1954, there had never been a human being clocked running a mile faster than a 4 minutes. It was deemed scientifically impossible and even considered dangerous by experts, for the human body to move at that pace. However, on that day in May, during a standard dual meet, Roger Bannister broke the mold and ran a full mile in 3 minutes and 59.4 seconds.

Within 46 days of this event, another competitor was capable of running even 2 seconds faster than what had been for centuries declared impossible. In just 3 years, 16 additional runners were capable of the same feat and now this sub - 4 minute mile is a standard among all great milers. The record is now held by Hicham El Guerrouj of Morocco clocked in 1999 at 3:43.13.

It is stories like this that prove people are capable of whatever they put their mind to. It proves it is in our nature to put up barriers that stop us from even trying to go above and beyond. It is my belief that everyone has a metaphoric 4 minute mile. A standard set by those before as the highest level of achievement and to this we often succumb.

Over the years, I have realized that success cannot be dictated by scientists and experts who state what someone can and cannot accomplish. This is crucial when growing in a career and attempting above average results at anything. There will be people who say certain levels of success are unrealistic and cannot be done. I disagree. Just because it has not been done before, does not mean it is impossible. Now thanks to Roger Bannister, we have proof. Once the mold is broken and the mental barrier of the impossible is shattered, others quickly follow. It just takes one person to prove it wrong.

So my advice, is whenever you feel stuck in something, find what is holding you back. Find your 4 minute mile and break it. Once you do, you too will see others follow.

All three showed outstanding performance and progress over the last 2 months. They were selected out of 30 people to attend a weekend leadership conference in San Francisco. San Diego Marketing Group joined together again on Saturday, May 1st to kick off another great Amazing Race. This was the second of a series of events that members of the firm have participated in.

The teams are divided into groups of 3 or 4 and assigned a color. Each team is given a series of clues in number order to different places in San Diego. The first team to solve and visit all their clues and make it back to their meeting place is declared winner.

The President of San Diego Marketing Group created the Amazing Race as an optional team building exercise for the members of the company. What resulted was almost full participation by the company for a day exploring San Diego, with a little competitive spin of course.

All members of the company were divided into teams and assigned colors. Each team was given an envelope with numbered clues to 9 of San Diego’s most historical and memorable locations with each team’s clues in different orders. The teams were to decipher the clues and travel to each location and take a picture.

The first team back to the meeting point in Pacific Beach would win as long as all the pictures were in order and accurate.

The winning team, the black team, reveled in their glory while the remaining teams filtered in the following 40 minutes.

San Diego Marketing Group volunteered Saturday, December 5th, 2009 at the Theraeutic Recreation Services 27th Annual Holiday Carnival & Craft Fair . Twelve members of San Diego Marketing Group volunteered their time to the foundation. The Holiday Carnival and Craft Fair consisted of more than 30 booths and games with activities to benefit individuals with disabilities.

The City of San Diego Park & Recreation Therapeutic Recreation Services is a program created in 1972 provided to reach out to San Diegans with physical, mental and emotional disabilities. The program provides sports, recreation, and leisure services. The services provided include therapeutic recreation programs and adaptive sports opportunities, meant specifically to address the special needs of individuals with disabilities who may not be able to access other opportunities offered to the general public. The Services reach more than 50,000 people annually and have received local, state and national recognition for being outstanding in the field of recreation for people with disabilities.

San Diego Marketing Group members were manning four different game booths. Each member was in charge of setting up stations, running contests and helping children with the game participation.
